Sherrie Glasser-Mayrsohn: Physical Therapy Improves Quality of Life

Therapy-ProfessionalIf you ask Sherrie Glasser-Mayrsohn, physical therapy is about more than just rehabilitating a sore knee or back, it’s about improving a patient’s life. Sherrie has owned Metro Physical and Aquatic Therapy for 30 years, and is proud to have helped patients of every walk of life feel better both physically and mentally. Sherrie and her team possess diverse skill sets, making them the go-to center for physical therapy no matter what sort of ailment a patient faces.

Metro Physical and Aquatic Therapy takes a unique approach to care. Treatment is multi-faceted and highly personalized based on that individual’s abilities, pain level, and personal rehabilitation goals. Staff members utilize massage, gym equipment, hands-on therapy, and a salt-water hot pool to help clients get back to their desired activity level. Whether the patient is a professional athlete or simply hoping to chase after their kids, the team is able to make these activities possible for that individual again.

The salt-water hot pool is one of the trademarks of the facility. Through her years of study, Sherrie has found that this tool is an effective way to help ease patients’ pain, build up strength, and improve range of motion. Whether a client is facing chronic pain, headaches, or is recovering from a sports-related injury, the pool is highly therapeutic.

Therapists at the facility have years of training between them; each practitioner has unique interests and areas of expertise. Some specialize in women’s issues, others are particularly passionate about geriatric care, and some choose to focus on sports-related injuries. This wide range of knowledge allows them to provide the best treatment possible for each and every patient that arrives at the facility.

While the team’s ultimate goal is to get clients back to their desired activity level, the staff also places a high value on total health and wellness. To Sherrie Glasser-Mayrsohn, physical therapy is about much more than just improving range of motion and agility. She wants each customer to leave her facility understanding the importance of good posture and a well-balanced diet. While some physical therapy facilities work with you on strength-building exercises and then send you on your way, Sherrie and her team offer a much more diverse experience.

For clients suffering from neck and spine complications, the team teaches “neck and back school” which educates patients about proper back and spine alignment, as well as correct posture.  Sherrie and her staff also encourage each patient to enroll in a “live well” program, which helps individuals continue their healthy regimen even as their regular physical therapy treatments become complete. The program discusses the importance of diet and exercise, as well as the dangers of a sedentary lifestyle. These topics are hot buttons for Sherrie, and she’s passionate about spreading awareness among her patients.  In addition to this information, the facility also offers nutritional counseling and exercise classes to help clients continue on their journey to wellness.

Since the center is privately owned and operated, the practitioners are able to tailor treatment plans directly to each individual’s unique circumstances. With locations in Garden City/Westbury, East Hills/Roslyn, Manhasset/Great neck, Bellmore, Rocky Point, Oceanside, Long Beach, and Commack, care is accessible to people throughout Long Island.

Sherrie Glasser-Mayrsohn: Physical Therapy Professional and Speaker

To Sherrie Glasser-Mayrsohn, physical therapy has the potential to change a patient’s life. In fact, she’s experienced the power of excellent care first-hand. When Sherrie’s father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Sherrie had a difficult time watching him walk with a shuffling gait. She couldn’t understand how he had visited the doctor just a week before when he was clearly struggling to travel even a short distance. With encouragement from her father’s neurologist, Sherrie got her dad started on a strict physical therapy regimen. The treatments helped significantly, and the neurologist stated that this was probably the thing keeping Sherrie’s father from becoming wheelchair-bound. For Sherrie Glasser-Mayrsohn, physical therapy played a major role in her own health and wellness.

Because of this experience, Sherrie is passionate about assisting elderly patients. She is highly trained on issues impacting seniors, such as fall prevention, fitness, and incontinence, and frequently gives lectures on these topics.  Sherrie helps elderly individuals work to overcome pelvic floor dysfunction, and is pleased when her clients find relief after years of enduring other failed treatments.

The success of Sherrie’s senior patients has led her to believe that a careful physical therapy regimen is able to provide pain-relief for problems that elderly patients frequently face. Where traditional treatments fail, physical therapy becomes highly effective. In addition to her extensive work with senior patients, Sherrie has also spent time rehabilitating professional and semi-professional athletes.  Sherrie believes in the importance of the care and dedication of a licensed physical therapist.

Sherrie received a BS in Physical Therapy from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She then went on to receive a Master of Science in Orthopedic Physical Therapy from the Institute of Graduate Health Sciences in Atlanta. Though her formal education is complete, Sherrie feels it’s important to stay on top of industry trends and developments. To do this, she’s an active participant in many professional organizations.

Her membership in these groups allows her to learn about new information in the field that enables her to better serve her customers and their families. Currently, Sherrie is a part of the Long Island Association of Independent Physical Therapists, the American Society for Shoulder and Elbow Therapists, and the Northeast Women’s Health Study Group. She is also a member of the New York Society and Council of Physiotherapists, as well as an active member of the International Conference of Acting Aging.

For Sherrie Glasser-Mayrsohn, physical therapy is about getting the client back to his or her desired activity level, and reliving pain that has plagued that person for an extensive amount of time. Whether you’re a professional athlete or simply prefer a stroll around the neighborhood, physical therapy can help soothe muscle aches and improve agility. According to Sherrie Glasser-Mayrsohn, physical therapy has the ability to help seniors overcome incontinence issues. Sherrie Glasser-Mayrsohn is the founder of Metro Physical and Aquatic Therapy, which was created in 1982.
